Falkirk&Callander Club Crowned Top National Taekwondo School 2011! 5th time

Another great result for Falkirk&Callander Taekwondo club at the recent UK championships with the club winning a UK Championship event for the unprecedented 5th time, this is another major milestone in our history.

This competition was dominated by our children and teenage students with a few adults competing as the other adults refereed and coached during the event.

The club won 11 Golds 10 Silvers and 6 Bronzes in Sparring and Patterns to be crowned the overall UK champions competing against clubs from all over England Ireland and Scotland.

In the Children's category special mention for this competition goes to 9 year old John-Jo Paterson winning his first Gold medal in Sparring, this was no easy task as he had a hard fight in the final winning a close fought match in the last round, he was well behind in the 1st round then came strongly back to take the lead in the 2nd round and had to hold on to the last second of the last round to win by a couple of points.

He also gained his first Patterns medal getting Bronze for his efforts.

Carmen Tran 12 years old also done excellent in her first Sparring competition winning Gold and Bronze for Sparring as well as a Gold in Patterns she can only get better in the future.

Jamie Thomson 9 year old came close in the final to winning Gold he just missed out on it and came away with a Silver to add to his medal collection.

Eilihd Johnston won her second Gold medal in this competition for her Sparring. Robbie Player also won his second Gold in a row in Sparring.

Gary Hamilton who started Taekwondo over 6 months ago won his first medal at this competition winning

Silver in the Patterns event.

Sisters Tegan and Naomi O'May 9 and 11 year olds both came home with 2 medals each for Sparring and Patterns Tegan gained 2 Silvers and Naomi 2 Bronze.

In the Junior category Liam Muir and Ross Walker won Gold in the Sparring events winning some tough matches to get to the finals and win, Scott McCoull brought home the Bronze to add to his growing medal collection.

As sometimes happen in these events club members need to compete against each other which is stressful for the students as they have to fight their friends. On this occasion Anna Holden and Eilihd Walker got to the final where Eilihd just won a close fought event, both Girls did their club proud.

In the adult category Laura Amelia Macdougall won Gold for Sparring and Bronze for Patterns, Daniel Mallin Martin won 2 Silvers in Sparring and Patterns and William Ferguson won Silver in Sparring and Patterns.

Marc Rivett won 2 Golds in 2 weight categories he is an excellent fighter who has won Golds in Malaysia and Europe over the last year.

Alasdair Cox won Silver medal in the Patterns event.

Sisters Elisha and Rebecca shaw along with Jim Bryce came close in the Patterns event but unfortunately missed out in the medals the experience will have done them no harm.

Others worth a mention are Rory Sneddon Liam Ferguson and Stewart McGregor who all done well in the Sparring event just missing out in the medals.

We had the great honour of 4 club members officiating on the day refereeing the bought's and corner judging the event to ensure a safe competitive environment, Alasdair Cox, Kristofer and Conan Irvine and Mark Doyle all done their club proud by showing true professionalism and fairness in the events.

Team coaches Duncan Irvine, Ricky and Lorraine Buchanan and Elaine Turner worked tirelessly for the whole event ensuring our students competed fairly in a safe environment.

We would also like to congratulate Scott McCoull and Eilihd Walker who passed their Black Belt grading just before the event after a 4 hour assessment held by Grandmaster Loh 9th Dan.

Thank you so much to everyone who made such an effort to attend the event, without the efforts of students and parents we would not have been so successful, keep up the good work.

The club keeps going from strength to strength in the TTA and are pleased to have achieved this great accolade 5 times, if you want to train with us come along for a free 2 week training session and see how you enjoy the training, we run classes in Falkirk , Grangemouth, Stirling and Callander as well as school tasters in various primary schools.
